Susina Boise Brought a High Chair, Berries, and Braised Duck—and Nailed All Three

A Boise local’s first visit to Susina turned into a three-course dinner with a 13-month-old in tow, and the restaurant handled it beautifully.
BOISE, ID—Susina Boise has been on a lot of local reservation wish lists, and one recent first-time visitor finally made it in—baby and all. When local food enthusiast Rosie Piper arrived with her 13-month-old daughter in tow, the staff didn’t miss a beat: high chair with a tray, genuine patience, and an unprompted plate of berries and ice cream for the littlest guest at the table.
It’s the kind of small-restaurant hospitality that’s easy to promise and hard to actually deliver. The food held up its end, too.
Piper ordered the wild porcini pappardelle to start and the braised duck leg as her main, finishing with a raspberry panna cotta. Her dining partner went the crab risotto, wagyu coulotte, and strawberry rhubarb cobbler route.
Her verdict on all of it: unreal. Susina runs a fixed three-course format with enough variety that she’s already planning a return visit just to work through the other options.
The room itself is cozy and close-set enough that Piper ended up chatting with the couple at the next table about life and food—which, at a place like this, feels less like an accident and more like the whole point.
