Sturgeon, Scones, and an Alpine Coaster: One Family’s 48-Hour Boise Playbook

BOISE, ID—A family of five visiting from out of town managed to squeeze the MK Nature Center, a Boise River float, a full day at Bogus Basin, and a Greenbelt e-bike ride into 48 hours, and according to @eliza.donelson on Instagram, one five-year-old declared it ’the best day in my life.’

The itinerary leans heavily on spots locals already know and love. Day one included underwater fish viewing and a seven-foot sturgeon at the MK Nature Center, cheddar bacon scones at Bacon Boise, a wander through Freak Alley and R.D. Books, an evening float with Float the Boise River (weekend trips run until 9 p.m.), and a stop at The Stil for ice cream. The family stayed at Sparrow Boise, where an outdoor fireplace and cornhole kept the kids occupied before bedtime.

Day two was Bogus Basin, where a day pass covered the alpine coaster, scenic chairlift, tube sliding, rock climbing, and bungee trampolining. Day three was all Greenbelt: e-bikes with kid seats from Greenbelt E-Bike Rentals, coffee at Push & Pour, lunch at the Green Acres food truck park, and a final stop at Boise WaterShed’s outdoor water play area before hitting the road.

For Boise residents, the list doubles as a solid guest-visit checklist—the kind of itinerary that’s easier to hand someone than to explain from scratch.
