Star’s Free Swimming Pond Is 20 Minutes From Boise and Has a Thing Called Dock-Zilla

Freedom Park in Star offers a free, family-friendly swimming pond with a shallow wading area, floating dock, fishing, and paddleboarding—about 20 minutes from Boise.
STAR, ID—If you’re staring down a 95-degree afternoon with a kid in tow, Freedom Park has a standing answer to that problem. The park, commonly known as Star Pond, sits in Star, Idaho—roughly 20 minutes west of Boise—and charges nothing at the gate.
According to @thriveinidaho, the swimming pond includes a shallow section for younger kids, shaded benches, and beachy areas for lounging. There’s also fishing and paddleboarding for anyone who wants to make a full day of it.
The floating dock is the centerpiece, and attached to it is something the regulars call Dock-Zilla—a jump platform that, based on the name alone, appears to set reasonable expectations for the experience. For families new to the Treasure Valley or still figuring out what Idaho summers actually look like, Freedom Park is a useful first answer.
