Boise Centre Has Been Turning Away 115 Events a Year. That’s About to Change.

The Greater Boise Auditorium District quietly completed its third land purchase of the year, securing 6.5 acres a few blocks from the existing convention center for a major expansion.
BOISE, ID—The agency that runs downtown’s convention center has been quietly assembling land for a significant expansion, and the latest acquisition puts the project on noticeably solid ground.
According to @iheartcityoftrees, the Greater Boise Auditorium District completed its third land purchase this year, locking up 6.5 acres across three parcels a few blocks from the existing Boise Centre. The planned build could include ballrooms, exhibit halls, and a parking structure. The motivation isn’t hard to find: the current facility turns away roughly 115 events per year simply because it has no room for them.
For a downtown that has spent the last decade adding hotels, apartments, and restaurants, a convention center that can actually accommodate large groups would have an obvious ripple effect on the businesses surrounding it. @iheartcityoftrees frames the investment with a fair question: is this building Boise’s future, or somebody else’s vision of it? That debate will likely get louder once shovels appear.
